So you know you need to eat foods that are in season, right? Because they are nutritionally superior, right? Well, I am going to tell you that eating as orange is hard for me. I looooove orange juice and all things flavored orange, but I’m not a fan of eating the actual fruit. Same with cranberries. And I don’t really like biting into the seeds of a pomegranate. It’s just a texture thing.
(I keep trying with pomegranates. I want to LOVE them, but I just don’t. Yet.)
But I have solved all that by whizzing it up in my (NEW!) blender! Tada!
I finally broke down and bought a Blendtec blender and now my smoothie making has hit new levels.
So this particular smoothie has some beautiful in-season fruit and a festive color. You can add a bunch of nutritious mix-ins like powders, seeds, etc., but here’s the basic recipe. It really is delicious!
(Oh, speaking of mix-ins, I have added some collagen a few times and the result is a much creamier, lighter-colored smoothie. Still delicious!)
–This has a WHOLE orange in it. Think of the vitamin C you’ll be getting. You really need that this time of year. Leave a little of the white pith on the orange because that’s really healthy.
–Ice and almond milk can be adjusted to desired consistency.
–Frozen cranberries would work just fine, but make sure they’re unsweetened. I used fresh.
- ½ cup unsweetened almond milk
- ½ cup pomegranate seeds
- 1 orange, peeled and sectioned
- ¼ cup cranberries
- 2 medjool dates, pitted
- Ice for consistency (about 1 cup)
- Blend all ingredients in blender until smooth.
